Hair Repair can be tricky. If you are a new blonde, welcome to the club! I hope you read my Read This Before Going Blonde! guide to prepare you for what’s to come! If you’re a veteran blonde and just looking to change up your haircare routine, you’ll find the products that have been working wonders for me for the past three years (and counting)!
Hair Repair Product #1: Shampoo
When I had healthy hair, the quality of water or shampoo didn’t affect my hair at all. Haircare was also simple. I could use anything from $1 shampoo to $100 shampoo, my hair was always reliably soft and shiny. After all the bleach took its toll on my locks, everything changed.
I started my blonde hair journey with lots of purple shampoo. This is what all hairdressers recommended to keep hair from getting brassy. I didn’t know how much damage the purple shampoo was causing, though. No matter what brand, the purple shampoos would dry my hair out and make it dull. I would be left with a nice color but no life to my hair.
The other issue is when your hair is really fragile and damaged, the problem starts with the water you use to wash your hair. When I lived in the US, this wasn’t as big of a concern for me because I somehow always got lucky with soft water.
Living in London has been a hair nightmare. After spending money on a water softener, I realized it was a lot of work to constantly maintain the salt levels. I searched for easier alternatives.
That was when I came across the best shampoo/conditioner combo – ever. It specifically counteracts the affect of hard water and restores your hairs natural texture and shine AND it fights against brassiness and keeps your hair true to color! If you live in an area with hard water, you need this in your life.

Hair Repair Product #2: Hair Mask
One of the most important things you can do for your hair in this new, fragile state is to provide it plenty of good moisture. Investing in a good hair mask can make all the difference. My absolute favorite is the Kerastase Resistance Force Architect Reconstructing Masque. Brittle and damaged hair stand no chance against this mark.
Hair Repair Product #3: Hair Serum
I never used any hair serums when I had dark hair. I just didn’t need the extra moisture or repair. My hair was so resilient, and BOY do I miss those days. I met a hairdresser when I lived in Atlanta who introduced me to this brilliant product: Bumble & Bumble Save the Day Daytime Protective Repair Fluid. This stuff not only smells divine, it also really saves the day. I used this product on dry hair when my hair needs a bit of moisture and also on wet hair post washing. The residual product in my hair kept it soft and protected, and my hair also smelled incredible!
Hair Repair product #4: Hair Bonnet
Nothing has made my hair feel more “normal” than this hair bonnet. This is a MUST for me before I wash my hair. The combination of this with the Keratase hair mask is magic. It accomplishes what a few days of coconut oil sopped hair does – in a fraction of the time.
First, slather a hair mask (and you can use any hair mask) all over your dampened hair.
Second, put on the hair towel and bonnet.
Third, Plug in my hair dryer.
Lastly, let the nutritious hair mask seep into those damaged hair shafts.
The result is honestly unparalleled. If you can only buy one product from this list, choose this one!
