During our recent visit to Hawaii for our mini-moon, we wanted to eat amazing food without overspending (this is something we are notorious for because we love to eat). Prior to our trip, we looked into some of the best “cheap” restaurants on Oahu. These five were our favorites!
Cheap Restaurants Hawaii #1: Hawaii Sushi
Hawaii Sushi: This was the first restaurant we visited after landing in Hawaii. We were starving after the long flight and were craving some fresh sashimi and rolls. We went a bit out of the way for this, but it was totally worth it. The rolls were incredibly affordable (around $8 or so) and their tuna was some of the best we have ever had anywhere. We paid around $30 for lunch and left completely full – and all of the seafood was SO fresh!
Cheap Restaurants Hawaii #2: Island Vintage Coffee
If you go to Hawaii and don’t go to Island Vintage Coffee, you can’t sit with us! Their frozen coffees are to DIE for and are also the perfect remedy for the heat. We had breakfast here every single morning because we became addicted to their açaí bowls. Our favorite was the Liliko’i Moana Bowl. With ingredients like fresh papaya, organic housemade honey, bananas, strawberries and organic granola, you can’t go wrong.
We also tried the original açaí bowl, which was also delicious. We loved this place so much that we also came here for lunch one of the days. I got the Spoyu Spicy Ahi Poke Bowl and it did not disappoint. It was absolutely delicious and I literally cleaned up the entire bowl.
Cheap Restaurants Hawaii #3: Tanuki Sushi
This was a great, random find. We were at the Ho’omaluhai Botanical Garden and lunchtime was approaching. We googled the best sushi nearby, and this place popped up. This little hole in the wall had the best spicy salmon roll I’ve EVER had. We were a bit skeptical of their 4.9 rating on google at first glance because there are only 36 reviews, but those 36 people absolutely know what they are talking about. This place is the perfect lunch spot if you find yourself in that area. Their seafood was extremely fresh, and this place didn’t exactly break the bank either.
Cheap Restaurants Hawaii #4: Pupukea Grill
I love food trucks so when we were driving up the North Shore from Ko Olina, this was the perfect lunch detour. With 4.8 reviews on google and the most stunning beach right across the street, this place totally made my day. My husband and I shared the spicy tuna bowl. I don’t know what they put in their sauce, but it is magical. This was by far my favorite thing I ate while on Oahu and was sad we couldn’t go back before leaving Hawaii. If you’re in this area, I highly recommend swinging by for the most amazing spicy tuna bowl you’ll ever eat
Cheap Restaurants Hawaii #5: Takumi Japanese Restaurant & Bar
This was also a random find when we were too lazy to leave Ko Olina for the evening. The reason this place is on the list is because both the executive chef and manager were absolutely amazing. They were so creative with their food and recipes. We mentioned to them we were on our honeymoon, and they made us a special off-menu dessert that I became obsessed with. It was a sweet potato based dessert with caramelized sugar and ice cream. I told them they need to put it on the menu because I licked the bowl clean! The food was really delicious, and everyone was so incredibly friendly. We loved this random find!
Bonus Find: Mina’s Fish House
While this one isn’t exactly “cheap” we spent a lot of time here because we stayed at the Four Seasons in Ko Olina. Their beach is absolutely stunning and views from this restaurant are phenomenal. This one made the list because of their happy hour. While their regular menu isn’t exactly sustainable if you’re on a budget (even though it is incredibly delicious, and we loved every meal we had here off the happy hour menu), the happy hour menu is amazing. We managed to find ourselves here everyday after 3PM to have their calamari, tuna bowl, fish dip, and burgers with a side of sangria!
